Meet our Chess teacher

My name is Allen Weiss. I began to play chess when I was 5 years old. Since then I have won several national titles and became a national master in 2008. I have been coaching chess since March 2006, giving private or group lessons to a range of ages, mostly between 4 and 13 years of age, and to many adults as well. Usually, my lessons are about 1 hour long, and I recommend slightly less for children under the age of 6. Assuming my group of students will all be beginners or novice players of a young age, I have a set program which I have developed and conducted over the last few years of my coaching experience. "The first two units I teach to beginners build a strong foundation for young students and act as an introduction to the world of chess. Units that will proceed become very specified on certain topics and become challenging, but very interesting, in my opinion. Overall, I believe that chess builds character and a strong determination to succeed, opening young students' eyes to a very magical world of intricate pieces. In all my experience, I have seen the amazement and laughter of young students thwarted by this game's immensity and beauty. I am very interested in spreading my knowledge of this game and making sure that each individual student understands the material."
